Huron Chipper is a chip variety that has enhanced feature superior to the variety Atlantic, like resistance to black spot bruising and late blight.  It is a full season chipper with a high yield potential.  Huron chipper has excellent chip processing ability from direct from the field and from early storage to late April at 50 F holding temperature.

Yield: High to very high, higher than Atlantic
Skin Color: light tan, lightly netted
Flesh Color: creamy White

Tuber Shape: Round, uniform
Tuber Set: 10-12 
Dry Matter: 22.4-23.3%, slightly lower than Atlantic

Dormancy:  Medium to long, longer than Atlantic 

Variety Strengths: 

  • High tolerance to heat and drought
  • Produces high percentage of A sized potatoes
  • Resistant to Late Blight
  • Resistant to black spot bruising
  • High tolerance to Common Scab, better than Atlantic and Snowden
  • High Specific gravity, slightly lower than Atlantic but better than Snowden
  • Excellent chipping from the field and from storage to April, chips into April from 49-50 F, does not need to be reconditioned
  • Very low incidence of Secondary growth, Growth cracks and Hollow heart
  • Requires a in row spacing of  10-12 inch in row
  • N fertility is slighly less than Atlantics (5-8% less N)) 
  • Vigorous vine, stronger vine than Snowden, Lamoka, Atlantic, Dakota Pearls
