Frosty Chip is an second Early maturing chipper that is best suited for chipping from the field but has proven to chip from storage when held at 45 and 50 F.

Variety Strengths: 

  • Earlier Maturity, slightly longer than Andover (4-5 days)
  • Early Field Fry possibilities and/or from short term to medium term storage
  • Uniform shape
  • High resistant to PVY virus
  • Moderate resistance to Common scab
  • Moderate tolerance to Black spot bruising
  • Very low incidence of Secondary growth, Growth cracks and Hollow heart
  • Tuber Dry matter is higher than Andover, Snowden, Lamoka and Dakota Pearl varieties but slightly lower than Atlantic
  • There has been no internal chip quality issues to date
  • May require a slightly wider in row spacing than Andover, ~ 10 inch in row or more
  • Requires ~ 140-150 lb/acre N on mineral soils, add 15% or more on sandy soil types
  • Work is ongoing for chipping ability at various storage temperature regimes but is appears that chipping from 50 F storage is good until May-June. Initial work indicates that it will chip from 44 - 45 F with reconditioning for late season delivery
